Express complete double over Police to keep title hopes alive

Express FC beat Police 2-0 at Wankulukuku to keep hopes of winning their first league title since 2012 alive.

Striker Eric Kambale scored in the first half while Godfrey Lwesibawa doubled the scoreline moments into the second half to complete a double over The Cops.

Kambale gave the Red Eagles an early lead in the 4th minute when he scored in an empty net after Derrick Ochan failed to clear the ball because of the waterlogged surface of Wankulukuku.

Lwesibawa made it 2-0 in the 47th minute when his low shot was slightly deflected past Ochan from close range.

Police were awarded a penalty following Mahad Yaya Kakooza’s foul on Duncan Seninde inside the box in the 72nd minute.

Goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga preserved the two-goal cushion by saving the resultant penalty kick which was taken by Ben Ocen.

Frank Kalanda, who replaced Eric Kambale, had two clear cut chances in the closing 10 minutes after being set up by Martin Kizza and Lwesibawa but failed to convert both.

Express are now level on points (46) with Vipers who play against KCCA on Sunday. Wasswa Bbosa’s men will visit Kyetume in their next game on Wednesday.

Police will visit KCCA on the same day.
