Vipers target maintaining grip on the top in tough Express visit

Siggy AINE

The Uganda premier league title race gets tougher and interesting with each game that goes by. Match day 20 of the 30 games played in the Uganda national league will see a mouthwatering clash between two of the title contending sides go head to head.

The game slated to take place today at 4pm will see hosts Vipers aim to keep their grip on top of the table as their host third placed Express at St Mary’s stadium.

This game is very vital to either side as a win for Vipers will see them continue being on top of the table where they currently share points with URA each at 43.

A loss would spell doom for them in case URA wins their game against Bright Stars tomorrow.

On the other hand Express needs the game too in case they are to keep their slim chances of title hopes alive. A win will see them keep in third place but shorten Vipers and URA’s lead above them to 3points as they currently sit on 37 points 6 points adrift of first place.

Both sets of players walk off the pitch following a 1-1 draw in the first leg

While speaking to the media in the prematch conference, Express coach showed his desperation and desire to win this game.

‘We understand the importance of the game given the gap between us and Vipers, we go there looking for nothing but maximum points and we believe we can achieve it,”

Bbosa told the Club’s official website

However, Vipers coach Fred Kajoba also showed how much he wanted to win this game knowing the importance it holds after being held to a goalless draw by Wakiso Giants on Tuesday.

This is more like a defeat because our target is to win all home games, for now, all focus is on beating Express FC,”.

Vipers will go into this game on the back of a fine form having won three of their last five games losing one and drawing one. They have also scored 12 goals conceding only two.

On the other hand, Express have won two drawn two and lost one in the last five games finding the net six times and conceding twice.

Head to Head

In the last six matches played between the two sides, Vipers have won four matches drawing 2 and no loss.

It’s fair to say that Express is one of the sides the Kitende boys love scoring against as they have found the Red Eagles’ net 14 times conceding just three times.

Express will have a lot to worry about because they have not managed to take even a point lest find the net in the past three home encounters against last year’s champions.

Express will therefore be hoping to play their best football and come back with three points from Kitende.
