KCCA advance to Uganda Cup quarter-finals in style

KCCA FC beat Maroons 3-0 at Lugogo to progress to the Stanbic Uganda Cup quarter-finals with a 5-0 aggregate.

The joint record-holders came into the encounter after winning the first leg 2-0 in Luzira thanks to goals from Herbert Achai and Hassan Jurua.

Morley Byekwaso and his charges had no complacency and took matters very seriously despite a two-goal cushion.

Sadat Anaku opened the scoring in the 7th minute after going past goalkeeper Eric Dhaira to score in an empty net.

It would have been 2-0 with KCCA making many relentless attacks while Gift Ali had his effort rattle the woodwork in the process.

In the 31st minute, Steven Sserwadda made it 2-0 when he finished off a well-laid ball from Samson Andrew Kigozi.

The second half saw Byekwaso make a triple substitution bringing on Juma Balinya, Bright Anukani and Italian midfielder Stefano Mazengo Loro for Gift Ali, Kigozi and Anaku.

Maroons brought on Derrick Mudaali who won them a penalty in the 53rd minute but the former Kampala University striker failed to convert it. His effort came off the crossbar and went out.

Balinya completed the mission with his first goal in KCCA colors at the stroke of full-time after receiving a brilliant pass from Anukani.

KCCA joined Express FC, SC Villa, Vipers, Police FC and Wakiso Giants in the last eight.

Police eliminated Soltilo Bright Stars 4-2 on aggregate on the same day.
