Hosts Algeria aspire to win AFCON U-17

They qualified for the tournament by virtue of being hosts, and they have been drawn in Group A against Senegal, Congo and debutants Somalia.

Match schedule (All games at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, Algiers):

April 29 – Algeria vs Somalia, 8pm Local time
May 2 – Algeria vs Senegal, 5pm Local Time
May 5 – Congo vs Algeria, 8pm Local Time
Rezki Remmane
Coach: Rezki Remmane

The home side will be led by Rezki Remmane. The 49-year old has been in charge of the Under-17 Algerian team for the last three years, starting off in November 2019. He built a solid team that went on to win last year’s Arab Cup and he will seek to repeat the success at Continental level.

The former Algerian international has also had coaching experiences with local clubs including Nasr Hussein Dey as well as Raed El Kouba.

“We are paired with great nations that are regular in big competitions. I believe all groups are equal. To us there are no easy or tough opponents. Senegal will certainly give us a tough time, but we will work to qualify for the World Cup and why not go all the way at home.”
