The federation of Uganda Football Associations FUFA has announced that retiring midfielder Tonny Mawejje will be accorded a standing ovation during his last game as Vipers host Police FC at the St.Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.
While appearing on NTVSportKnights the Police FC captain confirmed that he will be retiring from the beautiful game after the end of the current league campaign.
“I am officially retiring from playing active football for good. Playing football is all I have ever wanted to do and am happy to have had such a long career. It’s time to leave the stage and concentrate on other aspects of the game.” Said Mawejje
FUFA on according him a standing ovation in the 6th minute in the game between Vipers and Police at Kitende
“FUFA confirms that Tonny Mawejje will be accorded a standing ovation in the 6th minute of the Uganda Premier league game between Vipers and Police FC at St.Mary’s Stadium Kitende on Saturday.”
Mawejje will be presented with a plaque from the FUFA President Moses Magogo in recognition for his services towards the game. This will be done before the crowning ceremony of Vipers as the Uganda Premier league champions for the 2021/22 season.
Mawejje is also expected to have a testimonial game in July this year.
The legendary midfielder began his career at now defunct Masaka LC before joining KCCA, URA FC and Police FC (twice) in Uganda.
He also featured for
ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar in Iceland, Golden Arrows (South Africa), Haugesund in Norway, Valur (Iceland), Þróttur also in Iceland, KF Tirana in Albania and Arabi SC (Kuwait).
He represented Uganda at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Gabon. He featured for the national side 83times and scored 8 goals as well as winning several CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup trophies.
