Uganda U20 women hold South Africa U20 in Johannesburg to progress to the penultimate round

Viola NANKYA

Ayub Khalifa’s U20 team has advanced to the fourth round of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers after overcoming South Africa in Johannesburg.

Uganda held South Africa to a goalless draw in a game played at the Dobsonville Stadium in Johannesburg.

The result meant Uganda wins the tie 1-0 on aggregate having won the first leg two weeks ago at Kitende courtesy of Hadija Nandago’s 18th minute header.

The Ayub Khalifa coached side will now face the winners between Ghana or Zambia in the next round.

The winning team of the fourth round will then face either Ethiopia or the winners between Tanzania or Burundi for the final slot of the World Cup.

The World Cup, which will be held in Costa Rica next year in August, will have only two teams representing the African continent.
