Express seek redemption from tough visit to BUL

Reporter

Defending champions Express FC will aim to arrest a bad form of a two match losing run in the new season when they visit a boggy BUL FC side at Bugembe.

The Red Eagles have lost their two opening games of the season to Arua Hill (2-0) and UPDF FC (1-0). In fact they have lost their last four games across all competitions after falling to Al Merriekh and BUL FC in CAF Champions League and the Stanbic Uganda Cup respectively.

The last time Express lost three consecutive league games was in the 2018/19 season. They fell to Tooro United (1-0), Police FC (2-0) and then after BUL (1-0) in the third game which was George Ssimwogerere’s first game in charge by then.

BUL FC come into this encounter on the back of a 2-1 emphatic win over Police FC and will be targeting to make six points in their first two games.

Team News
Express will have to negotiate the tie without their star striker Erick Kambale who picked an injury in the club’s defeat at UPDF last week.

George Ssenkaaba and new signing Raymond Walugembe will be looked up to as Kambale’s replacement in search for goals.

Coach Wasswa Bbosa will be serving his second game of the three match suspension.

Arthur Kiggundu returns from injury and he is expected to take over the left back position.

Besides Kambale, the club will also miss captain Enock Walusimbi who is nursing a hip injury together with Godfrey Lwesibawa who has a knee injury.

BUL FC welcome back Hamis Tibita, Ambrose and Simon Peter Oketch from injuries.

However, the home side will continue to miss their inspirational forward Joseph Ssemujju who is sick.

Previous Meetings
The previous 20 meetings between both sides have been bossed by BUL FC who have won nine times. Express have won six of the 20 while the other five times have ended in draws.

The last time both sides met was in the Stanbic Uganda Cup semi final and BUL won 1-0 courtesy of Owen Mukisa’s lone goal.

The last meeting between both sides in the league ended 4-0 in favor of Express courtesy of goals from Lwesibawa, Ssenkaaba and defender Murushid Juuko.

What they say.
Wasswa Bbosa (Express FC coach)
“We return to league action, we know we’ve lost two straight league games but in both losses our problem has been failure to convert chances, we create but don’t score so we’ve used the little time we had since Saturday to perfect that so against BUL FC we hope to return to winning ways”.

Alex Isabirye (BUL FC coach)
” We are playing Express in the league and you know we don’t play the same style in the league and Uganda cup. We managed to beat Express 1-0 in Uganda cup but this is a different story. We are in league whereby they are the champions and they are a strong team though they have lost their opening two matches. I know it wont be an easy contest but we shall try to beat them in our own courtyard.”
