URA FC ready to upset Egyptian giants Al Masry in the CAF confederation cup

Viola NANKYA

Uganda’s only representatives in the CAF competitions URA FC will take on Al Masry of Egypt Egypt evening at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on the evening of Saturday 16th, October, 2021.

Al Masry previously appeared in four consecutive editions of the CAF Confederation Cup from 2016/17 to 2019/20.

The Port Saidi based club received a CAF bye in the preliminary round and will start their campaign for this year’s edition on this stage.

For URA FC to reach this round, they defeated Ethiopian club Coffee FC 5-2 on aggregate.

They registered first leg advantage at Kitende with a slim 2-1 win before thumping the home side 3-1 in Ethiopia.

The Egyptian opponents will be URA FC’s last hurdle before the round of 32 where they will face off with the CAF Champions League disqualified clubs for the group stages slots.

URA FC manager Sam Timbe has noted that he is aware of what awaits his charges but they are ready to place their opponents exactly where they belong, scoring goals and eventually winning.

“The best way of defending is by attacking. We have to keep the ball and show them [Al Masry] what we can do with it.”

“What matters most in tomorrow’s match is scoring goals. That’s what wins games. I am sure it’s what players, fans and everyone associated with the club wants to see tomorrow.”

Said Timbe as reported by URA FC’s media platforms.

Al Masry FC, familiar opposition to Ugandan sides in the same competition, were ejected from the CAF Confederation Cup by another Ugandan opponent, KCCA in 2017.

They fell 1-0 to the Kasasiro boys before th Arabs registered a similar scoreline in Egypt.

KCCA won the subsequent penalty shoot out 4-3 to proceed to the group stages of that edition.

The Ugandans will bank on the services of captain Shafik Kagimu, Cromwell Rwothiomio, Steven Desse Mukwala among others to search for the much needed win.
