South Sudan appoint Italian Cusin as head coach


South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) has announced that Canadian born Italian Stefan Cusin with be their head coach until 2023.

He replaces Cyprian Besong Ashu left his role mid this year, a position he had held since 2019.

” I am happy to take charge of this team and I call on all players to support me in achieving the goals that have been assigned to me. I will bring all my experience so that the team can play the leading roles, both on the continent and internationally. And that necessarily involves victories, ”

The Italian said.

The South Sudan team has been temporarily under local coach Simon James Yor for the past one week.

He is a former Wolvehampton Wanderers assistant coach who served the English club under the tutelage of Italian legend Walter Zenga during the 2016-17 Sky Bet Championship season.

The 52 year old has coached in Cameroon at Acada Sports FC, Congo Brazzaville national team, Libya’s Al Ittihad Tripoli and lately South African side Black Leopards in 2018.

He has had stints in Saudi Arabia, United Arabia Emirates, Palestine and most recently in Iran with Shahr Khodro FC last year.
