CAF okays up to 5000 fans to watch Al Merreikh vs Express FC return leg

Kenneth MUKISA

Up to 5,000 fans have been approved by CAF to spectate the CAF champions league return leg between Al Merreikh and Ugandan Champions Express FC.

The Red Eagles are in cruise control of the tie having beaten Al Merreikh 2-1 at Kitende.

The encounter will be staged at the Shikan Castle Stadium which is found in El Obeid, North Kordofan State at exactly 9pm on Sunday.

Initially the game was scheduled to take place on Friday 17th September in Khartoum at 8pm but it was later pushed to two days later.
Express FC come into the second leg with a 2-1 aggregate lead having won the first leg at Kitende thanks to goals from Martin Kizza and Erick Kenzo Kambale.

The Red Eagles have been boosted by the arrival of stand-in head coach Simon Peter Kirumira after his documentation was sorted later after the team had traveled to Khartoum.

Kirumira is currently with the team in Khartoum where they are expected to leave for El Obeid on Friday morning.

The aggregate winners of the tie will automatically face Zanaco FC of Zambia or Equatorial Guinea Champions Akonangui FC.

CAF has also rejected a request by the Ethiopian Federation to allow fans into the Bahir Dar stadium during Ethiopian Coffee’s return leg fixture with Ugandan representatives URA FC scheduled for Sunday 19th September.
