Cheptegei makes Olympic history for Uganda with 5,000m Gold

Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei has made history by winning the 5,000m race and won Gold, Uganda’s second of Tokyo 2020.

He beat Canada’s Mohammed Ahmed of Canada and Paul Chelimo of USA.

Cheptegei clocked 12: 58.15 and became the first ever Ugandan to win two medals at the Olympics.

He is also the first Ugandan to win the 5,000m race and won the elusive medal. Uganda has so far won four medals at Tokyo 2020 the others were won by Peruth Chemutai and Jacob Kiplimo.

Cheptegei’s counterpart Jacob Kiplimo tried to keep up with the front pack but he feel off the chase with 110m left .

America’s Paul Chelimo pipped Kenya’s Kipkorir to secure Bronze.
