It was not only Uganda’s first Gold medal at Tokyo 2020 but also Uganda’s first women to win an Olympic medal .
She beat USA’s Courtney Frerichs and Kenya’s Hyvin Kiyeng who won Silver and Bronze respectively.
She expressed what a great feeling it was.
“I am feeling great. Today I made it. It is the first time Uganda gets the gold medal in 3,000m steeplechase. I am so happy to be an Olympic champion.

It is Uganda’s 10th medal in Olympic history and all them have come from men save for Chemutai. The two Gold medals were won by John Akii Bua in 1972 Munich and Stephen Kiprotich at London 2012
