The Democratic Republic of Congo’s team will participate in the CECAFA U-23 Challenge Cup as guest team, the CECAFA Executive Director Auka Gacheo has confirmed.
“DR Congo have requested to play and we have allowed them to play as a guest side,” said Gaheco.
Ethiopia will host the first tournament in 2021 in the CECAFA calendar between July 3-18th in the town of Bahir Dar. All Member Associations will contribute US$20,000 (UGX 70.5m) which will help the hosts meet some of the costs.
Teams that have already confirmed participation include; Uganda, Eritrea, Djibouti, Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Burundi, Rwanda, Somalia, DR Congo (guests) and hosts Ethiopia.
