BEACH SOCCER: Sand Cranes finish fourth after falling to Morocco

Uganda’s Sand Cranes finished fourth in the AFCON Beach Soccer in Senegal after losing 5-3 to Morocco in the third place play off.

Coming into the third place play off, Uganda had lost to Mozambique in the semi finals while Morocco fell to Senegal.

Uganda sought consolation after missing out on the World Cup berth but also missed out on the bronze medal.

Rabi Aboutalbi and Nassim El Hadaoui scored a brace each for Morocco while Yassir Abada added the other.

The Sand Cranes scored through Alex Emmanuel Wasswa who grabbed a brace and Baker Lukooya.

Uganda was taking part in the tournament for the first time and eased to the semi finals from Group A which had Tanzania, DR Congo and the hosts Senegal.

DR Congo pulled out of the tournament before kick off and left only three teams in the group.

Senegal emerged the eventual winners of the tournament after beating Mozambique 4-1 in the final. 

The two finalists automatically qualified for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup that will be held in Russia in August.
