Uganda’s dreams of playing in the Beach soccer World cup in Russia have been shattered by Mozambique who beat then 6-3 in the semifinals.
The Sand cranes fell ruthlessly to Mozambique in the semifinals of the AFCON Beach soccer tournament currently underway in Senegal.
They had progressed to the semi finals from group A together with Senegal. However Mozambique wouldn’t let them make it to the final as they whipped the Cranes 6-3.
The game played at Saly beach soccer stadium saw Baker Lukooya, Emmanuel Alex Wasswa and Paul Lule on target for the sand Cranes
Mozambique’s goals were scored by Smith Rachid Chefo who netted five goals while Nelson Manuel the other one.
In the other semifinal, Senegal who are the hosts triumphed over Morocco with a 3-1 win.
Uganda will now play Morocco in the battle for third position while Senegal and Mozambique will tussle it out it out in the finals.
Ugandan coach Salim Jamal Muwonge had immense praise and appreciation for his team despite falling to the Mozambican power.
“I am proud of the players and their character at the tournament. We are only making a debut and hopeful that one day, we shall play at the FIFA World Cup finals. We now look forward the third place play off against Morocco” Muwonge said.
Mozambique and Senegal have already automatically booked their places in the beach world cup tournament in Russia.

Uganda Vs Morocco (7:15pm EAT) 29th May Saturday
Senegal Vs Mozambique (8:30pm EAR) 29th May Saturday.
