Striker Emmanuel Arnold Okwi has been named as the new Uganda Cranes captain.
Okwi replaces Denis Onyango who retired from international football two months ago.
Okwi is the most experienced player in the Cranes set up and has 82 caps with 26 goals.
“Representing Uganda is a privilege that I don’t take for granted. I am deeply honoured to be named captain by the Uganda Cranes coach.”
Okwi said via FUFA Website.
” I appreciate the technical bench and my teammates for their trust. I also thank all the fans for their continued support for the national team.”
He added
Okwi made his Cranes debut in 2009 and went on to represent Uganda at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations final tournament in Egypt where he scored two goals, one against DR. Congo and another against Zimbabwe.
The former SC Villa, Yanga SC and Simba SC striker missed the 2017 AFCON tournament in Gabon.
Okwi is currently plying his trade in the Egyptian Premier League with Al Ittihad Alexandria.
His immediate assignment will be leading the Cranes against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana at the Orlando Stadium on June 10th.
