Sand Cranes enhance chances of AFCON quarter finals with win over Tanzania

Uganda’s Sand Cranes beat neighbors Tanzania 4-3 in the ongoing AFCON Beach Soccer in Senegal.

The win was Uganda’s first ever at the continental showpiece after failing 5-1 to the hosts Senegal in the Group A opener.

Emmanuel Alex Wasswa, Swalleh Ssimbwa and brace scorer Ismail Kawawulo scored the four goals for Uganda.

Juma Rajab Januph (brace) and Wallis Stephanie Napuunalo scored for Tanzania.

Wasswa put Uganda in the lead before Juma levelled for Tanzania through a penalty.

Wallis gave Tanzania the lead but Ssimbwa made it 2-2. Kawawulo scored two goals and ultimately won it for the Salim Muwonge coached team.

Kawawulo took his tally to three goals having scored a consolation in Uganda’s crushing defeat to Senegal.

Uganda will hope Tanzania doesn’t win the final group game against Tanzania on Wednesday so as to qualify for the quarter finals.
