CAF has decided to extend the dates on which the Women’s AFCON qualifiers were supposed to commence in June.
The first round will now take place during the FIFA international window of October 18-26th later this year.
The second round will be played between February 14t and 23rd 2022.
The Total Women’s Africa cup of nations will be hosted by Morocco in 2022.
The decision was reached at due to constraints posed by the COVID-19 pandemic that challenged CAF’s members
The tournament also doubles as the African qualifiers to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The top four teams will qualify for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, and two more teams will advance to the inter-confederation play-offs.
Nigeria are the three-time defending champions, having won the tournament in 2014, 2016 and 2018. The 2020 edition, which would have been the first to feature twelve teams, was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
