Title Race Heats Up As URA is Slaughtered By Kyetume

Hazel Twine

A few weeks ago, it seemed like the title race was going to be between two teams, URA and Vipers who had drifted away from other possible title contenders.

However, over the last couple of games, these two have dropped unnecessary points that are now costing them. This is after Express squeezed themselves in the mix and now even top of the table.

On Tuesday Vipers faltered and gave away to goal lead to Mbarara city who won the game eventually 3-2. In the aftermath of the game, Vipers ran to the UPL committee accusing Mbarara city of fielding an ineligible player, Ibrahim Mandagazi. However the UPL confirmed Vipers’ worst fears and cleared Mbarara of any wrong doing.

On the same day, Express cruised past Busoga United netting 4-0 goals. This win propelled the red eagles to the top of the table. Express’ lead at the top was only for a moment depending on the outcome of the game between URA and Kyetume.

However, by the end of yesterday’s game, Express retained their lead after URA was put to the sword by the slaughterers. Kiyemba curled in a beautiful free-kick in the 78th minute and Kyetume who are battling relegation got a massive three points.

URA were beaten by Kyetume at Nakisunga

This game left Express topping the table with 5 games to go on 55 points, URA second on 54 points and Vipers third on 53 points. The game also left Kyetume feeling boosted with their chances of survival after inching closer to just three points of safety.

Kyetume are now on 23 points in 14th just three behind Busoga United who are on 26.
