Eric Kambale scored his 12th goal of the season as Express beat UPDF 1-0 at Wankulukuku to keep their title hopes alive.
Fresh from scoring a hat trick against Kyetume in the mid-week, Kambale is now joint second on the scorers’ table with Steven Mukwala of URA and Samuel Ssekamatte of Soltilo Bright Stars. Only Yunus Sentamu has scored more than the trio (15).
Kambale converted from the spot after Godfrey Lwesibawa was brought down by defender Bernard Muwanga in the box in the 20th minute.
UPDF attempted to find the leveler but their efforts were not enough to break Express’ defense.
Brian Kayanja got close to doing it for the army side but his effort hit the post at the stroke of halftime.
UPDF were without their head coach Kefa Kisala who was serving his last game of the club suspension. His assistant Ssaka Mpima was in the dugout for the second game in a row.
Express have now won eight of their 12 home games. They also registered their fifth consecutive win in the league having previously beaten Vipers, Police, Kyetume and Onduparaka.
They stayed third with 52 points, two behind leaders URA and one behind second-placed Vipers who won their respective matches against Villa and Police.
UPDF FC are 7th with 33 points accumulated from the 24 games played so far.
Wasswa Bbosa’s men will visit Busoga United in their next game while UPDF will host KCCA FC the following day.
