Wakiso Giants thrashed UPDF FC 5-1 in a Uganda Premier League match played at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.
Ivan Bogere bagged a brace while Joshua Lubwama, Viane Ssekajugo and Frank Ssebufu scored the other goals. Hussein Zzinda netted the consolation for the losing side.
Wakiso were irresistible in the first half and raced into a 4-0 lead before the mandatory halftime break.
Lubwama opened the scores with a well-converted penalty after Ssekajugo was fouled in the box after only four minutes.
Bogere then doubled the lead from close range following a melee in the 18th minute.
Ssebuffu made it 3-0 in the 41st minute with a header from a long George Kaddu header.
Bogere completed his brace two minutes to the halftime break after rounding goalkeeper Yusuf Wasswa to score the fourth for the Purple Sharks.
The rout was completed by Ssekajugo who was lucky to score in an empty with a rebound following an initial save by Wasswa in the 69th minute.
Zzinda pulled one back for the army side in the 72nd minute.
The win took Wakiso Giants to the 9th place with 26 points while UPDF remained on 32 points in the 7th place.
Douglas Bamweyana’s men will next visit Busoga United on Tuesday, May 11th at Njeru whereas UPDF will host MYDA FC at Bombo on the same day.
