Vipers’ perfect home record scratched by Wakiso Giants

Kenneth Mukisa

It is advantage URA as Vipers dropped their first points at home this season after being held by Wakiso Giants.

The case of whether it is a point gained or 2 points lost will be decided tomorrow when URA visit SC Villa at Bombo Military Grounds.

Fred Kajoba’s men came into this game beaming with a 100% record after winning all 9 games at home, that record is no more and their title defense is also dented .

Riding on a morale boosting victory over Onduparaka in the previous fixture, Wakiso Giants approached the match with vigour and assuredness.

They made well calculated forward moves and also defended in numbers with Joshua Lubwama producing a man of the match display.

Abdul  Karim Watambala got the first serious opportunity in the match but the young Cranes midfielder’s shot went inches off just after 5 minutes of play.

Ceaser Manzoki also got at the deep end of a well orchestrated move but his header simply went over the bar.

His was the best chance of the entire 45 minutes of a tactical warfare.

Vipers made the first substitution by introducing Paul Mucirezi for Richard Basangwa, the national U20 star appeared to be short of ideas going forward .

Kajoba made another bold move  of withdrawing top scorer Yunus Sentamu for Milton Karisa in the 70th minute.

Karisa’s move almost paid dividends, he controlled a low ball close the area and shot at goal but Derrick Emukule was equal to the effort.

Bamweyana had earlier on also handed Rahmat Senfuka a chance to face his former employers in the 55th minute.

Paul Mucurezi almost stole it for the hosts but his header went just inches over the bar with Emukule beaten.

Vipers will host Express FC on the 23rd of April whereas Wakiso Giants host Kyetume in a do or die encounter on the same day
